The motive of BEC Pre School Students Assessment Program (BSAP) – is International Knowledge Standards Assessment for Outline Reporting of Kindergarten Inclination and is to evaluate  skills in children from early childhood to class 1.

An initiative by BEC International Education Council, BSAP is aligned to the BEC International Standards for kindergarten in the areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Computer, Gk and General Aptitude and includes three functional areas: physical, personal care and social-emotional skills. Assessment reports from BSAP are used for status reporting for PRE K students receiving special education.

The BSAP is graded by our educationists based on participant child’s ongoing observations viz based on  child’s intentional engagement, habits and skills. BSAP is available for International schools, preschools, and education organizations. Assessment results/Reports from BSAP can be used to determine which skills a child have expertise and to identify the student’s skill/ abilities to learn next.

BSAP is not intended to create academic pressure, competition or fear of examinations. It is an opportunity for children to participate, explore simple questions and activities, and receive appreciation for their efforts.

1. Simple Questions and Child-Friendly Activities

BSAP assessments contain very easy, age-appropriate questions and activities designed for young learners. The activities are intended to encourage children to participate according to their developing abilities.

The assessment is deliberately kept short and manageable, with activities designed to be attempted in approximately 10–20 minutes. The actual time may vary depending on the child’s pace and participation.

2. Personal Assistance from BEC Invigilators

BEC Invigilators play a supportive role throughout the BSAP assessment process. They guide and assist children in understanding the assessment activities and help them participate comfortably.

The emphasis is on encouragement, reassurance and a positive experience rather than independent performance under examination pressure.

3. Observation of Children’s Early Learning Behaviours

BSAP provides an opportunity for BEC to observe children’s participation and emerging skills in a supportive assessment setting. Depending on the activities, observations may include:

• Behaviour and participation: How children respond to instructions, engage with activities and interact in the assessment environment.

• Writing and pencil handling: How children hold writing tools, make marks, trace or attempt simple writing activities.

• Colouring and creativity: How children use colours, hold colouring tools and engage with colouring activities.

• Understanding and response: How children respond to simple questions and guidance appropriate to their age.

• Confidence and willingness to participate: How children approach unfamiliar activities and respond to encouragement.

These observations are intended to understand and encourage early learning behaviours. They are not designed to label children, compare their developmental abilities or make participation dependent on achieving a particular standard.

4. No Mandatory Requirement to Complete Every Activity

Every child is welcome to participate according to their comfort and ability.

BSAP does not impose a mandatory requirement for children to answer every question, complete every activity, demonstrate a particular writing skill or finish the entire assessment independently.

Some children may respond quickly, while others may need additional guidance, reassurance or time. BEC recognises that young children develop and express their abilities at different paces.

An incomplete answer, an unfinished colouring activity or a child’s need for assistance should not, by itself, be treated as a failure. The purpose is to encourage participation and provide a positive introduction to educational assessments.

5. Every Participant Receives a BEC Motivational Gold Medal

As BSAP is a motivational assessment, every participating child is to receive a BEC Motivational Gold Medal as a token of encouragement and appreciation.

The medal is intended to:

• Celebrate the child’s participation and willingness to try.

• Encourage confidence and a positive attitude towards learning.

• Give children a memorable and happy first assessment experience.

• Appreciate parents and guardians for permitting and encouraging their children to participate.

• Recognise the support of families and participating schools in nurturing children’s early learning journeys.

The BEC Motivational Gold Medal is a participation-based encouragement award. It is not dependent on obtaining a particular score, answering all questions correctly or completing every activity.

6. A Positive Partnership with Parents and Schools

BEC recognises that parents, guardians and early-years educators play an important role in children’s development. Their encouragement helps children approach new experiences with confidence and curiosity.

Through BSAP, BEC aims to create a positive connection among children, parents, schools and the assessment team. The programme acknowledges that participation itself is a meaningful step in a child’s early educational journey.
